As a freeman he becomes a member and early officer of the Free African Benevolent Society. He also owns several properties in Newport including his home on the west side of Thames Street. He is listed as an active member (with family) and possibly the first member of color of the 7th Day Baptist Church in Newport in 1771 to 1808.
